The day started with a third visit to Duhaga Boys School for the summer club. In craft the kids loved making their crowns, to fit with the theme “Saviour” and “King”. Once again the sports team found it challenging to control the very excited children, but managed to distract them with some Zumba!!
Finally, our worship team taught “this little light of mine….”as well as John 3:16 (we loved seeing the kids impressive dance moves).
After lunch we all walked from The Crown to The Mustard Seed. Like before, we showered them with balloons and bubbles! The Grey House school had also kindly donated old PE kits which were very much appreciated by the children and staff. All of us had an amazing time playing with the children as it was lovely to see all their smiles – even if they did steal our cameras……
Later on in the day we went up against Canon Njangali Girls School football and netball team. The football team were girls (Duncan Edit – I made it very clear that losing to a girls team would not be tolerated as we had quite a strong team of boys). Us girls were particularly worried as we’d heard the netball team were very hard to beat. We prepared ourselves for the ultimate failure! First, the boys played their football match against the girls. A large crowd of school children from various local schools turned out to watch the match. The pressure was on! Within the first half, Hugo (Duncan Edit – That’s my boy), Robbie (Duncan Edit – That’s my future boy!), Joseph (One of the Mustard Seed kids) and Jay had all scored a goal each, leaving the English team with an impressive lead. Nevertheless the girls pulled through and also scored a goal, making the local supporters go crazy!!! The match ended with a score of 4-1 to us. A victory the boys were very happy about! (Duncan Edit – Naturally, I had to remind them that they were playing girls that were also younger then them. Nevertheless a win and as I will always say a win is a win). Next up, was the netball match. Where our girls played the local. To our surprise we were fair competition, resulting in an exciting game. We actually managed to score 2 girls and went up at one point. Eliza and Abi were our scorers. However, our opposition powered through and beat us by 3 goals. This Sent the crowd into a celebratory mayhem!
After both of the heated matches the whole youth team were very sweaty (Duncan Edit – and smelly) This called for a dip in the pool and a hearty meal to finish a very busy day.
Missing you lots (although not really)
See you soon!
Love Izzy and Lucy
Xxxx
Duncan Edit – Tomorrow we are taking the team around both Hoima Hospital and also Azur so it might be an emotional day so please hold them up in your prayers.
Also it has to be said that our netball team called on Rob for his height in defence which ensured that they scored less than perhaps they would have with a smaller defender in position! I also called “foul” as at the end I realised that they had played their netball teacher in the centre which I felt was a bit unfair but it was a good game and we didn’t let ourselves down. So overall we ended with one win each which is probably the PC result!
Struggled to add photos to this blog but will try later which are all of the Big Matches!!
