The first day of summer club started off with Hugo, Sam and George leading devotion in which we were taught some basic words and phrases. For example “Alota” which means hello and “Webale Munno” which means thank you very much. Then Jay lead us in worship which everyone gathered round together singing “Build Your kingdom here”.
When we got to the school we all sang “God is a great big God” before separating off into our different groups: sport, worship/bible study and crafts. Sport was hectic to say the least due to the kids overwhelming level of enthusiasm. We tried to do a simple relay race but they were so excitable that every single one of them ran at once (rather than in turn) when we yelled “Go”. In worship we taught them the creation story by way of balloons. Everytime we popped the balloon to reveal the next stage they all jumped out of their seats in excitement. The highlight of the worship team (as well as the songs) was when we gave the children mirrors to see their reflection since many of them had never seen them before so their reaction was priceless. The animal masks we spent hours cutting out yesterday proved well worth the effort with the enjoyment the kids got out of them. The lions, tigers and giraffes were really popular, especially when we all did impressions. The only real issue we faced was trying to get them to stop colouring! On our way home we got to see where the Sherlock’s used to live and the areas of Hoima we haven’t been to before. A relaxing 2 hours break by the pool was followed by another trip to The Mustard Seed orphanage which was just as obsessed with cameras and bubbles as ever, and today loads of us met our sponsor kids and don’t worry there are lots of photos for the parents (Duncan Edit – I am sure you will get bored of all the photo’s and stories). The constant shouts of “Run Run!” From all those on our shoulders meant all of us were exhausted and sweaty by the end. Looking forward to eating as much dinner as we can manage. Uni, mafia and pretty much bathing in debt.
Lots of Love Helen and Keziah
Duncan Edit – We have now just completed our 3rd day in Hoima and so far there has been no power so we have had to relay on the generator which means the water heaters in the rooms haven’t worked so everyone is used to cold showers and so far not any complaints, well not to me anyway!!!
