Duncan Edit – Before we start I think I should point out that this blog has been written by my son or “Little Duncan” as he has become known, I expect he will try and make funny comparisons between me and Baboons, well given he is “Little Duncan” I assume they would apply to him also!! You May hear the song everyone has created for “Little Duncan” as well!
It is also a day late because by the time it was given to me I was tired and wanted to go to bed!
We woke up at 5.30 in the morning because we were going on an adventure. We were going to the “Land of the Hippo” AKA “Paraa”. We had a long three and half hour drive but in the end it was worth it because we saw the wild Duncan in her natural habit carrying little baby Dunkies through the treacherous forest. Once we had seen Duncan we met her again at her feeding ground AKA Lunch! We had the first decent bit of meat in a week and the Duncan was overjoyed to find a succulent medium rare steak waiting for her. Now, sadly, Duncan is naturally petrified of water (and walking) so she could not make it onto the boat safari or the walk to the top of the falls (Duncan Edit – or perhaps he just wanted to catch some rays and enjoy a cold Southern Comfort in piece and quiet away from too many teenagers for a couple of hours). On the boat safari, although there were no Duncan’s we saw many animals such as African Fish Eagle which Hugo pointed out fish for there food, Giraffes, Elephant, Hippos, Water Buck and Crocodiles. Once we reached the bottom of the falls we started of trek. Again, surprisingly, a distinct lack of Duncan’s, however we carried on our journey and after a 2 hour walk (Duncan Edit – Helen says it was an hour) and after enough sweat to water a family of Elephant for a year we reached the top of the falls. There is nothing that can support someone’s faith more than seeing such a magnificent creation and being reminded of God’s promises with every rainbow we saw. However, There is nothing that can test someone’s faith more than being stuck in a hot car with a tetsi fly and having to keep the windows shut. After all of this we got on the ferry and crossed the Nile. Once we had crossed the river two very interesting things happened. Firstly, a Baboon jumped into a tourists bus, only to be chased by a very old man with a moustache. Secondly, the first sight of a freshly washed Duncan who was also cleanly shaved. A sight not seen since we left London, over a week ago (Duncan Edit – But even after that time I don’t smell half as bad as teenage boys who say they wash daily!!!!0.
Good night and Lots of Love Hugo and Adam.
